Alfred Landecker Democracy Fellow Nikos Vrantsis wrote a book titled “SIMPLIFICATIONS. Space, subjectivity, suppression in conditions of Planetary Urbanism.” The book maps the trends and dynamics of simplification of complex ecosystems. The simplification mechanism is in itself simple: the reproduction of a unique form (practice, behavior, and subjectivity) ad infinitum that impoverishes previously diverse ecosystems. The book weaves different instances together to describe trends of this ominous phenomenon.
Nikos is one of thirty Alfred Landecker Democracy Fellows. This fellowship, a collaboration between the Alfred Landecker Foundation and Humanity in Action, was created to strengthen a new generation of leaders whose approaches to political and social challenges can become catalysts for democratic placemaking and community building.
