Brian is a Senior Manager on assignment at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where he leads a strategy project for the $2 billion agriculture portfolio. He spent five years at USAID in a variety of functions (in the Office of East African Affairs; helping re-establish the Mission in Burma; and in a strategic planning function in the Bureau of Policy, Planning, and Learning). Previous experience includes the State Department and international educational nonprofit Facing History and Ourselves. He is a 2014 Truman National Security Fellow and serves on the Humanity in Action Board of Directors. Brian holds an MA in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and a BA from Amherst College. A native Oregonian, he enjoys the great outdoors, philosophizing, and IPAs. He conducted a summer fellowship with Humanity in Action in Copenhagen in 2004.
