HIA Program:

Netherlands Netherlands 2007

Having grown up in a small town along the Bible belt of the Netherlands, I left my hometown at the age of 22 to train Thai boxing in Thailand. This being my first international experience, I wanted more! Retuning to the Netherlands 6 months later, I decided to study European Studies at the University of Amsterdam. It was during this study that I discovered my interest in international relations and economic development. I joined the HIA programme in 2007, after graduation, and participated in the Pat Cox fellowship in Brussels in 2008. Currently I work for the Dutch NGO 'WorldGranny', which focuses on poverty alleviation amongst older people in emerging economies. My work focuses on the micro finance sector, developing products for people with low income that allow them to save for future old-age, so they have a possibility to spend old-age in relative wealth, in stead of poverty.
