Bio:

When Miriam became part of the Humanity in Action network in 2009, she noticed that, despite of the variety of backgrounds, interests and professional positions among HIA members, she could always connect very quickly with every fellow she met. She is impressed how people involved with HIA are bound together in their endeavors to see human rights respected in their societies. Miriam’s fields of interest and work history have been strongly influenced by her early intercultural experiences. Born in Barcelona, Spain, Miriam grew up in Nuremberg, Germany and Toulouse, France. In 10th grade, she spent one school year in Québec City, Canada, before attending the French-German ABIBAC program at the Lycée International Victor Hugo in Toulouse where she received both the French (Baccalauréat) and German (Abitur) high school diploma. Miriam holds a B.A. in European Studies and a M.A. in International Migration and Intercultural Relations from the University of Osnabrück, Germany. Her great interest in migration and minority issues and her ties to Canada motivated her to volunteer two months in Tseshaht and Ditidaht First Nation Reserves on Vancouver Island before interning half a year with Amnesty International Vancouver between her B.A. and M.A. studies. After receiving her M.A. in 2009, Miriam worked as an intern, then junior officer for the Political Section of the Canadian Embassy in Berlin. Following a 6-month internship with the International Organization for Migration in Geneva, funded through a scholarship from the Carlo Schmid Program of the German Academic Exchange Service, Miriam returned to the Embassy to assist with different projects related to immigration issues. In December 2011, with a view to gaining more experience in project management, especially budgeting and financial management, Miriam joined the Excellence Research Cluster TOPOI at the Freie Universität. Since then, she has been specializing in research management and administration. In January 2014, she started working as a project officer for the Global Young Academy, an organization of young scientists from around the world.
