A former refugee from Sarajevo, Bosnia, Mia Ozegovic is currently pursuing a master in public policy degree at Harvard Kennedy School with a concentration in Business and Government Policy. Prior to graduate school, Mia worked as a mathematics instructor for the Abu Dhabi Education Council. Before that, she was a senior mathematics instructor at North Clayton High School in Atlanta, Georgia, teaching Advanced Placement Statistics, Trigonometry, and Precalculus. As a Teach for America corps member, Mia worked in an underprivileged area in Metro Atlanta in order to help close the opportunity gap between high and low income students. Mia graduated Summa Cum Laude from Emory University in 2012 earning a degree in International Studies, with a focus on political economy and Europe. She also minored in Sociology. In addition, Mia researched the international response to war crimes in Bosnia, interviewing survivors of the Srebrenica genocide. Her research in Berlin focused on post-communist politics in Eastern Europe and the politics of the European Union. Her thesis combines both qualitative and quantitative research to explore why states comply with international institutions and what implications this has for the future of international criminal courts and international law.
