In 2008, Ali earned a Fulbright Scholarship from the U.S. Department of State. The scholarship allowed him to pursue a Master's degree in Urban Policy Analysis and Management at the New School University in New York, which he received in 2010. While being in New York, he participated at the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues representing indigenous Muslim minority of Crimea- Crimean Tatars. Upon his return to Ukraine, Ali was hired by the International Organization for Migration, where he works today as a project manager. One of his projects is focused on the reintegration of victims of trafficking through their economic empowerment. Besides his work at IOM, Ali is actively involved in the Crimean Tatar National Movement, promoting the rights of this formerly deported indigenous people of Crimea.
