Felix Guttmann


Felix Guttmann is a successful entrepreneur in Amsterdam. His most renowned venture is Canal Company, active in tourism, which has grown to be the market leader in one of Europe’s top attractions, the Amsterdam canal cruise industry under the brand names Canal Bus, Canal Bike, Holland International Cruises and Gray Line. The fleet now consists of 45 skippered vessels and 120 pedal boats. Felix is active in various fields. He is initiator and chairman of the Amsterdam Light Festival, a cultural festival of light and water celebrating the beauty of light art in Amsterdam public space. He is chairman of VEVAG (the local cruise industry association), advisor to the Amsterdam Economic Board, the Heritage council and is or was on the board of various foundations, a.o. co-chairman of the London based European Tour Operators Association (ETOA), co-founder of the European Business Plan of the Year Foundation (a competition among MBA schools), the Henry Hudson 500 Foundation, and New York based Humanity in Action. He has been involved in the entrepreneurship curriculum at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University and in various competitions stimulating entrepreneurship. Felix has made a point of socially responsible entrepreneurship and the ecological footprint: Canal Company was the first in Europe to introduce clean CNG-engines in its boats in the early nineties. The company now also has 10 electric boats and was the first company to run a boat commercially on hydrogen. Canal Company has been a member of Social Venture Network Europe for many years and holds the Golden Green Key, the highest industry standard for SRE. He has been knighted for his achievements in 2009, when he became Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau, and was elected ‘Amsterdam Entrepreneur of the Year 2010’. Felix is married to Yolanda, has 2 wonderful daughters and goes to work by bicycle.
