Amelia Mitchell

Amelia Mitchell graduated from Smith College in 2011 and currently lives in Washington, D.C. She spent the summer of 2011 in Guatemala, conducting research on the societal impact of the Guatemalan Truth Commission. Following completion of that project, she joined the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor at the U.S. State Department, where she had previously interned, to work as an editor of the Department’s 2011 Country Reports on Human Rights. At Smith, she studied government and economics, wrote an honors thesis on transitional justice, and pursued human rights-focused internships and research projects in Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, and Washington, D.C.
