Diego Melo graduated from Macalester College in 2012 with a double major in Sociology and Latin American Studies. He studied topics in political sociology, the comparative politics of South America, and International and U.S. public policy issues. Diego was born in Colombia, has lived in Costa Rica, and spent a semester in Brazil studying social movements and unplanned urbanization. During his college years, Diego worked for non-profit organizations that seek to improve living conditions and provide radical community-based learning spaces for immigrants and refugees in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Diego is currently a human rights fellow at the US office on Colombia based in Washington D.C. and works on research and advocacy efforts around land rights, impunity and the search for a sustainable peace.
