Originally from Toronto, Canada, Hannah Forman graduated from Reed College in 2011 with a degree in Literature. She focused on 20th century French political theater and contemporary feminist theory. Hannah studied abroad in Brittany, France for a year where, due to lengthy student strikes, she was able to join a touring Theater of the Oppressed collective. During college, Hannah volunteered with a workers’ rights organization in Portland, OR teaching English to day laborers. She also directed a theater/anthropology thesis play that addressed gender minorities and the mental health system. Since graduating, Hannah has spent time in Berlin studying German, and in Portland working at a local women’s shelter, volunteering at Mercy Corps, and completing a 200-hour yoga teacher training. Upon returning from her 2012 HIA fellowship in Amsterdam,Hannah was inspired to work in the field of Immigration Law in Portland, OR as a legal assistant. Hannah also interned at Bitch Magazine and became a community educator. For her Senior Project, Hannah led a series of community workshops in Portland, OR on Anti-Oppression. In 2014, Hannah completed a year of National Service with AmeriCorps VISTA in the field of community healthcare and joined the local chapter of SURJ (Showing Up for Racial Justice). After her year of service Hannah moved back to Toronto to pursue a M.Ed in Social Justice Education and Sexual Diversity Studies at the University of Toronto. Since moving back to Toronto Hannah co-founded an organization called Resource Generation Canada which aims to organize young people with privilege to become transformative leaders in the equitable redistribution of land, wealth and power. Hannah currently works at a Francophone feminist nonprofit that focuses on violence prevention and anti-bullying. She is also passionate about organizing for social justice within the queer Jewish community.
