Denmark Denmark 2011

Hi everyone! My name is Kimmie Garner and I am a U.S. Fellow who participated in the Denmark Fellowship in 2011. I am from the Southeast originally (Texas, Georgia, and North Carolina), received my BA in Women's Studies and Global Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2011, and graduated with my Master's in Social Work from the University of Montana in 2015. I currently work at AppHealthCare, the local health department, in Boone, North Carolina on a five-county maternal and child health grant seeking to reduce infant mortality, improve birth outcomes, and improve child health for 0-5 year olds. My interests and passions include feminism, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum options and access, midwifery activism, Latina/o immigration, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and pregnant women's incarceration. I aspire to provide educational and emotional support alongside those who have been systematically marginalized in participatory, collaborative ways. I love to travel, meet new people, ice skate, spend time with dogs, cats, and rabbits, eat every cuisine imaginable, write down ideas for future books, read, do yoga, walk and hike for long distances on trails, and spend time with my partner, family members, and friends.
