ACLU of Georgia - Humanity in Action Fellowship

The ACLU of Georgia-Humanity in Action Fellowship provides one Senior Fellow the opportunity to work with the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia. The Senior Fellows will work on progressive and civil liberties campaigns in Georgia. The Fellowship is a short-term opportunity for Senior Fellows to gain exposure to policy research, outreach and advocacy over a 6-month period.

The ACLU of Georgia-Humanity in Action Fellowship provides a Senior Fellow with the opportunity to work on the front lines of social justice and civil liberties in Georgia. The Senior Fellow will work closely with Andrea Young, the Executive Director of the ACLU of Georgia, on a wide range of critical issues, including criminal justice reform, voting rights and voting mobilization.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia is dedicated to preserving the civil liberties enshrined in the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. Through litigation, lobbying, and communications, the ACLU of Georgia works to preserve and enhance the rights of all citizens of Georgia without political partisanship. Foremost among these rights are freedom of speech and religion, the right to equal treatment under law, and the right to privacy.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Support the ACLU of Georgia's policy and advocacy strategy
  • Utilize various resources, such as legal, legislative, and social science writings, to conduct research 
  • Draft and manage records requests
  • Interview and screen individuals who have been affected by civil liberties issues
  • Analyze information to identify civil liberties trends and interests
  • Develop a strong knowledge of priority issues and policy campaigns
  • Write about issue campaigns to educate and activate supporters and coalition partners 
  • Support the ACLU’s legislative program through lobbying and developing strategy
  • Assist in education and outreach for campaign initiatives
  • Coordinate special projects as assigned by senior staff


The ACLU-Humanity in Action Fellowship is made possible through the support of the Malka Fund of the Jewish Communal Fund. 

Eligibility and Application

All Humanity in Action Senior Fellows who have completed their Action Projects (or equivalent) are eligible to apply. Humanity in Action encourages those who are interested in gaining experience in law and grassroots campaigns to apply. The dates of the Fellowship are flexible for the right candidates.
