General Information

Participants of this program will study populism, nationalism and current forms of extremism in Europe. Through a mix of lectures, group discussions and site visits, participants will explore both the emerging trends and historical roots of hostility toward minority groups in Europe.

The trip will run from October 5 to 12, 2014.

This program is open to Humanity in Action Senior Fellows, Humanity in Action 2014 Fellows and Greek college students/recent graduates. The primary language for the program will be English.

This study trip will bring together an international group of students and recent graduates to explore the issues of populism, emerging nationalism and present day forms of extremism in Germany and Europe. It will provide a platform for the participants to learn from experts and eyewitnesses about the historical background and contemporary forms of nationalism and extremist movements in Europe, exchange experiences with activists working in the field and learn about best practice examples. The study trip will address the tensions that emerge around identity issues in different national contexts and at the European level. The international setting will allow the participants to discuss in a comparative perspective and to take the knowledge and tools they gained back to their own communities.

Humanity in Action will select a total of 30 individuals to participate in the program. We will select 15 Humanity in Action Fellows/Senior Fellows and 15 college students/recent graduates from Greece.
