New York Conference

41

When: Friday and Saturday, October 20-21, 2017

Where: Lecture Hall (U L104), University Center, 63 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10003

Inspired by the Humanity in Action International Conference, the New York Conference is a regional gathering for Senior Fellows and friends of Humanity in Action.

We are focusing this year's New York Conference on "The State of the States," to survey public policy issues across a diverse group of U.S. states. Even though national politics dominate public debate, much of the battle for democratic freedoms, equality and human rights is on the state level. We will explore both political progress and retrenchment –– such as California's leadership on immigration and climate, and trans rights and "bathroom bills" in North Carolina and Texas. The event will feature keynotes, breakouts and site visits, as well as a Senior Fellow reunion dinner.

We are looking for Senior Fellows who are involved in exciting state-level work to join the conference as speakers. If you are working on an issue in public policy –– whether through the courts, state legislature, governor's office or civil society –– we want to hear from you. We're especially interested in featuring Senior Fellows working in states that are underrepresented in national political discourse. If you have an idea of a session you would like to lead, please send us a short email at conference@humanityinaction.org.

The conference is hosted by The New School for the fifth year in a row. For details on speakers and subjects from previous New York Conferences, see below.
