Wietze Veenstra

Article

Wietze is a third-year Communication and Information Sciences student at the University of Utrecht. Before starting his studies he wrote about the emergence of populism in Europe and the United States for his final high school research project. For his Bachelor’s minor Wietze focused on History and International Relations. This minor provided him with the theoretical and analytical tools to link history and human rights to current issues regarding digitization, polarisation, and unrest. As such, he for example analyzed the Dutch parliamentary motives for military interventions in Indonesia between 1945-1950, the British abolishment of slavery, and speeches from extremist leaders in current-day contexts. Next to volunteer experience in event organizations and external relations, Wietze was also involved with a startup in Utrecht.
