Steven Jensen

Steven L. B. Jensen is Senior Researcher at The Danish Institute for Human Rights. He holds a PhD in History. Before joining The Danish Institute for Human Rights, he held positions with UNAIDS based in Geneva and The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has worked with global health and human rights over two decades and also on international human rights diplomacy.

His publications include the multiple prize-winning book The Making of International Human Rights. The 1960s, Decolonization and the Reconstruction of Global Values (CUP 2016) and the co-edited anthology Histories of Global Inequality: New Perspectives (Palgrave 2019). His forthcoming book Social Rights and the Politics of Obligation in History (co-edited with Charles Walton) will be published by Cambridge University Press in 2022. He has previously published books on Genocide (2003) and on Denmark and the Holocaust (2003) and was the editor of the first Danish language introduction to the field of Genocide studies (2000). He is a regular contributor to Open Global Rights and the South African newspaper Daily Maverick.

Steven has served on the Humanity in Action Denmark Board of Directors since November 2021.

Steven is also a member of the October ’43 Travel Grant Board.
