Siddik Bakir


Siddik Bakir works in Saudi Aramco’s Strategy & Market Analysis unit where he is responsible for short-term oil market analysis and the long-term energy outlook. Prior to that, he was a Senior Energy Analyst for the Middle East and South Asia at IHS Energy – an energy-consulting firm – in London. Before working in energy, Siddik worked as political assistant in three parliaments: in the House of Lords in London, in the European Parliament in Brussels as Humanity in Action-Pat Cox-Fellow and in the US House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. as Humanity in Action-Lantos-Fellow.

Siddik also has work experiences at Royal Dutch Shell and Chatham House, where he assisted experts in their energy research teams.

Siddik holds three academic degrees: an MPhil Master’s in Modern Middle Eastern Studies from St. Antony’s College, University of Oxford, where he received a full Weidenfeld scholarship; a GDL Law degree from BPP Law School, London, and a B.A. degree in Political Science and Oriental Studies with a minor in Economics from Ruhr-University Bochum where he received a scholarship by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation.

In his free time, Siddik sits on the Board of the AMAR International Charitable Foundation in London, with HRH The Prince of Wales as Patron. The charity is providing health care and education to under-served communities in conflict and war zones in Iraq.

Siddik is a member of a number of international networks: a Senior Fellow of Humanity in Action since 2005, a Young Leader of the Atlantik-Brücke since 2008, an alumnus of the Weidenfeld Fellowship since 2009, a member of the British German Forum since 2011 and the German-Turkish LikeMinds Forum since 2013. Siddik grew up in Germany’s idyllic city of Hattingen, lives in the Middle East and has two daughters.
