Prof. Bata Kowalska is interested in gender dimension of citizenship, grassroots activism, and mobilizations. Those topics have permitted her to combine her academic fascinations with experience working on programmes for gender equality in Poland and abroad. She is a representative of the Jagiellonian University in the Scholars at Risk Network, that protects threatened scholars and promote academic freedom around the world. Awarded the top prize of the rector of the Jagiellonian University for teaching – Pro Arte Docendi. Major scholarships and lectures abroad include the University of Cambridge, the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna, the American Centre for Oriental Research in Amman, New School for Social Research in New York, Rutgers University, and the University at Buffalo. She is an Academic Ombudsperson at the Jagiellonian University.
