Joshua Aiken is currently the Policy Fellow at the Prison Policy Initiative and his academic research has focused on the relationship between racism, criminalization and displacement, especially as it relates to prisons, jails, and immigration detention facilities. In 2016 he received his M.Sc. in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies and in 2015 his M.St. in American History from the University of Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He graduated summa cum laude with his B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis in 2014, where he studied American Culture Studies and Political Science. At Washington University he was Co-President of WU-SLam a spoken word poetry group, an Undergraduate Representative to the University’s Board of Trustees, Speaker of the Student Union Senate, co-playwright of the annual Black Anthology theater production, and a Residential Advisor.
