Johannes Lukas Gartner is a certified facilitator of Search Inside Yourself, a global emotional intelligence leadership retreat for executives and teams, a certified ontological coach, a certified yoga teacher, and a leadership trainer at key2advance. After seven years at Humanity in Action, Johannes supports us as our Senior Management Consultant and Advisor to the CEO. Until recently, Johannes served as our International Director of Strategy and Organizational Development. Prior to that, Johannes held a variety of roles at the organization, including Germany’s Director of Programs (2016 to 2018). Before joining Humanity in Action, he worked in strategy consulting for public sector clients at Roland Berger after getting work experience at various other places ranging from the Centro Nacional de Comunicación Social, a press freedom and civil society communications non-profit in Mexico City, to Lilofee, an independent children’s toy store in Berlin-Kreuzberg. He completed internships and research visits at places including the HIV/Aids Program of the United Nations Development Program in Panama City, the European Union Fundamental Rights Agency in Vienna, and multinational law firms in Istanbul and London. Johannes is a law graduate of King’s College London as well as Humboldt University Berlin and an international relations graduate of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. His research interests have centred around LGBTQ issues in Europe. His most recent work was published in the Global Encyclopaedia of Lesbian, Gay, Transgender and Queer History (“LGBT Migration to Europe,” 2019). Johannes was born and raised in Vienna. He is an alumnus of the American Field Service (Panama, 2004-05) and a Humanity in Action Senior Fellow (Diplomacy & Diversity Fellowship, 2014).
