Joanitah Nakiggwe

Article

Joanitah Nakiggwe is a compassionate thinker eager to document and highlight the stories of others. Born in Uganda, she moved to the United States at the age of three. She has since done many things like play soccer, serve as captain of a speech and debate team, and play flute throughout high school and college. In university, she participated in undergraduate student government as the chair of the diversity, inclusion, and equity committee, led facilitations/discussions on systems of oprresions as a community engagement advocate, conducted research on women of color in modern pop music within library archives, and graduated having majored in international development, sociology, and psychology—to name a few. Joanitah hopes to one day combine her passion for sociology, mental health, and photography to tell stories about how migration affects one’s identity. In the meantime, she will be watching pottery videos, researching grad schools, and refining her photography skills.
