Betsy is a retired non-profit administrator, educator, and historian. Her commitment to HIA and its mission has been one of action and support, nurtured by her belief in the ideals of liberal democracy and open institutions that HIA promotes and her commitment to the community of scholars and fellows that HIA creates. Her friendship and collaborations with Judith Goldstein have expanded her personal world to the ideals that Judith protects and HIA illuminates. She sees her involvement in the HIA network as one small way of paying forward for the generations coming behind us.
