Annelie Boeren

Article

Annelie attended a project-based learning school in Tilburg, but finished her high school at United World College in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. She became fascinated with post-conflict peace, sustainable democracy, and social inclusion. After two years, she returned to the Netherlands to study World Politics at Leiden University College. In her free time, she teaches Dutch/English to migrants at a high school in The Hague and works as a language coach for the Dutch refugee agency VluchtelingenWerk. Studying in South Africa for a semester taught her more about global issues like racism and (structural) discrimination. She experienced how ethnic/racial/cultural division and segregation pose real threats to the cohesiveness of societies across the world. After the summer, Annelie will start an internship at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She will work for the “Rule of Law and Peacebuilding” team that focusses on transitional justice, peace processes, and inclusive politics.
