The 2017 Berlin Fellowship Program

Humanity in Action Germany invites newcomers who are living in Berlin to apply for the 2018 Humanity in Action Berlin Fellowship.

About

Intensive and demanding, the Humanity in Action Berlin Fellowship brings together international groups of emerging human rights leaders to explore the German histories of discrimination and resistance as well as examples of social justice issues affecting different minority groups today. The objective of the Humanity in Action Fellowship is to facilitate a collective exploration of the social and political roots of discrimination, as well as to provide a forum where potential solutions to some of today's most challenging issues can be considered and discussed. The program is intended to instill a responsibility among those who will in the future shape societal affairs to recognize and address the need to protect minorities and uphold human rights in their own communities, and beyond.

The 2018 Berlin Fellowship will place June 8 to July 4, 2018 in Berlin. The Fellowship ends with the 9th Humanity in Action International Conference, which will take place in Strasbourg from July 5 to 8, 2018. The Humanity in Action International Conference is the annual gathering of Humanity in Action Fellows, Senior Fellows, Board Members, friends of the organization and partner organizations. All conference costs (including travel, accommodation and meals) will be covered by Humanity in Action.

Obligations and Opportunities

The Humanity in Action Fellowship lasts one month, but its impact on the lives of Fellows and their communities lasts for many more. Humanity in Action has a very active alumni network and offers a range of educational, professional, and financial opportunities to its Senior Fellows.

Prior to the Fellowship, selected Fellows are required to engage with a selection of readings. During the Fellowship, full-time committment is expected from all the selected Fellows. Exceptions are made on an individual basis for all necessary extracurricular commitments (such as appointments as part of the asylum process, duties with the Jobcenter etc.). After the Fellowship, our Fellows complete an Action Project in their own community or elsewhere. Please take a look at the Obligations and Opportunities section for more detailed information on what we ask for and what we offer.
