The Program

What costs does Humanity in Action cover during the program?

For Greek participants, Humanity in Action covers:

  • the travel costs to and from the program city;
  • the costs of participation and accommodation during the Fellowship programs;
  • the costs of many meals and public transport during programming times of the Fellowships;
  • additional support if needed.

However, Fellows should plan to bring spending money for additional food and social activities during the Fellowship programs. Humanity in Action does not discriminate based on financial need and will assist Fellows with documented need in meeting financial demands.

Accommodation, food and additional spending money

Fellows should plan to bring spending money for additional food and social activities during the Fellowship programs.

ATLANTA: A 550 USD stipend is provided for all fellows. This stipend is for food, transportation and for dorm supplies (e.g., bedding, kitchen utensils). Each dorm has a full kitchen. A few program events are catered but for the most part fellows are responsible for their daily meals. Fellows should bring additional funds for social activities. 250 USD is recommended.

BERLIN: Humanity in Action Germany arranges for host family stays for Fellows from abroad. Please note: Fellows who apply from Germany and who are accepted to the Berlin Fellowship are responsible for finding accommodation on their own. Humanity in Action Germany contributes to accommodation costs of non-Berlin based participants.

All Fellows receive a monthly transportation ticket. Humanity in Action covers many meals during the program activities. Fellows in the Berlin program should plan on bringing 250 Euro for off-program food and 200 Euro for off-program social activities.

SARAJEVO: Humanity in Action Bosnia and Herzegovina advises Fellows to bring an estimate of 350 Euro to Sarajevo for food and off-programming activities. Accommodation in Sarajevo will be covered for all Fellows. Additionally, the return travel from Poland to Sarajevo will be covered by HIA.

WARSAW: Humanity in Action Poland covers accommodation for non-local Fellows and Fellows from abroad. Humanity in Action Poland covers mostly two meals per day during program days and public transportation tickets. Fellows in the Warsaw program should plan on bringing 350 to 400 Euro for off-program food off-program social activities.

Important: Humanity in Action encourages applicants who do not see themselves in a position to cover these extra costs to apply for the program nonetheless. Additional support will be provided to individuals facing financial hardship with documented need by the recruiting office. In the case of Greek participants, the Berlin office is in the lead.
