Article

Last year, the Bertelsmann Foundation North America and Humanity in Action teamed up with Andrew Keen, author of How to Fix the Future, to launch How to Fix Democracy: a video and podcast series exploring practical responses to the threats facing democracies around the world. Host Andrew Keen interviewed prominent thinkers, writers, politicians, technologists, and business leaders who informed and challenged us as we sought answers to How to Fix Democracy.

In Season 2 How to Fix Democracy places the focus on economics, inequality and capitalism itself, to learn if fixing democracy means reforming our economic systems.

Today, we are excited to announce the recent launch of How to Fix Democracy Season 2, brought to you by the Bertelsmann Foundation in collaboration with Humanity in Action. We are returning for a second season with dozens of interviews with top experts on democracy, economics, technology, and more.

Season 2 kicks off with “Why We Can’t All Be Denmark” in conversation with Branko Milanovic, Presidential Scholar at CUNY and author of Capitalism, Alone.

During Season 1, one word—other than democracy—came up frequently: Capitalism. Some people said the system was broken, irresponsible and in need of reform. But the system was also recognized by others as a powerful liberating force and essential to the success and spread of democracy. Thus, in Season 2 How to Fix Democracy places the focus on economics, inequality and capitalism itself, to learn if fixing democracy means reforming our economic systems. Andrew Keen is again the host in conversation with the interviewees.
