Tsione Wolde-Michael (France, 2008) was a co-curator of the History exhibitions of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C. Tsione worked on a small team that created the permanent exhibition “From Slavery to Freedom.” The team researched narratives and accounts, wrote the exhibition text, created multimedia elements, tracked down artifacts, conceptualized the layout, and even determined the facial expressions of the statues.”

“A Ph.D. candidate in history at Harvard, Wolde-Michael also works with the Smithsonian Slave Wrecks Project whose mission is to combine research, training, and education to build new scholarship and knowledge about the study of the global slave trade, particularly through the lens of slave shipwrecks.”
