We are delighted to announce the 2021 Fellows! Please join us in welcoming these 109 Fellows who will participate in the Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Sarajevo, and Warsaw Fellowship programs. We are excited for them all to join our community of Fellows and Senior Fellows!

The Humanity in Action journey begins with a year-long Fellowship. For Senior Fellows, membership to the community lasts a lifetime.

From June 1 – 4, 2021 the entire cohort virtually meets for our International Opening Program. This is the kickoff for a one-year journey, comprised of Fellowship programming and Action Project implementation. Humanity in Action Fellowship programs examines the ways in which communities co-exist to create a society. Each program investigates human rights, democracy, and structural injustice in the host society. Each bridges the international and the domestic, the theoretical and the practical, the political and the personal. In the 11 months following the on-site or virtual Fellowship program, our Fellows work on their Action Project: an independent venture focused on promoting democratic values in their own communities. During this time, they participate in skills-based and project management workshops.

“In Conversation with... Angela Davis”

In her Action Project, Lamisa Mustafa is building on the activist work she has already been doing at her university. The conversation with Dr. Angela Davis is just one of many events organized by Lamisa as part of the larger effort by the SMU’s Human Rights Council to advance and ensure racial justice on and off campus.
