Article

Humanity in Action Poland Board Member Magda Szarota named Ambassador of Persons with Disabilities by Ambassador of the UN Convention of the Rights of People with Disabilities in recognition of her work and advocacy for people with disabilities in Poland and abroad.

Disability rights are human rights! Sounds obvious, right? Often only in theory. In practice, the United Nations Convention for the Rights of People with Disabilities (CRPD) is only partially implemented. To challenge this reality, Magda has been active for years in the field of disability activism. She co-founded the first Poland Association for Women with Disabilities and, in collaboration with Humanity in Action Poland Director Monika Mazur-Rafał, incorporated the theme of people with disabilities into Humanity in Action Poland’s agendas at various levels.  Magda has also co-written the first shadow report on the (non)implementation of the Convention in Poland regarding women and girls with disabilities. She represented Polish civil society as a delegate during the UN’s CRPD session in Poland in September 2018.
