Catalyst Commissions: Grants for New York City Artists

Landecker Democracy Fellow and Humanity in Action Senior Fellow Sharon M. Chin launches the Catalyst Commissions – an initiative to catalyze civic partnership and democracy via the power of art. There will be five grants awarded to artists who are committed to working with and empowering communities in Queens, Chinatown, and a to-be-determined New York City neighborhood. Participants from the communities will determine the grant recipients.

The deadline to apply is March 20th, 2021! If you know of an artist, please share this opportunity with them. Visual artists, dancers, musicians, and social practice artists are eligible. Sharon is the Founder and Executive Director of The Creative Sanctum, a digital magazine that spotlights innovative and adventurous artists. The Creative Sanctum is proud to partner with Think Chinatown and Queens Council on the Arts on this initiative.

Sharon is one of thirty Landecker Democracy Fellows. This fellowship, a collaboration between the Alfred Landecker Foundation and Humanity in Action, was created to strengthen a new generation of leaders whose approaches to political and social challenges can become catalysts for democratic placemaking and community building.
