Inter-Faith Toolkit to Combat Gender-Based Violence

Details

Article

Landecker Fellow Reshma Persaud, as a part of the South Queens Women’s March, supported the organization’s publication of an interfaith toolkit combatting gender-based violence. The toolkit calls faith leaders to action in protecting women, girls, and gender nonconforming individuals in their communities. It explains how the pandemic has increased gender-based violence and the ways in which faith leaders can intervene and support victims and survivors. Additionally, the toolkit includes Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Islamic, Jewish, Christian passages that leaders can reference when working with their congregations.

Faith leaders can also sign an online pledge in which they commit to ending ender-based violence, supporting women’s empowerment, and educating their congregations on gender equity.

South Queens Women’s March recently celebrated its one year anniversary. You can learn more about the organization’s important work here.

Reshma is one of thirty Alfred Landecker Democracy Fellows. This fellowship, a collaboration between the Alfred Landecker Foundation and Humanity in Action, was created to strengthen a new generation of leaders whose approaches to political and social challenges can become catalysts for democratic placemaking and community building.
