Article

Landecker Democracy Fellow Christiana Bukalo was interviewed by Bayern2 Radio on April 6, 2021. Christiana was born and raised in Germany but doesn’t have German citizenship. In the interview, she talks about her years in the Asylum Seekers Home, her everyday teenage life, and how much is possible to achieve when someone believes in you.

Christiana knows the challenge that stateless people are facing from her own experience. She is currently launching a platform Statefree.World, which aims to help stateless people around the world connect with one another. She says, “It would have been great if people were proud not of their ‘stateless status,’ – since it has that negative connotation – but proud to be ‘free from state.'”

You can listen to the full interview here (in German).

Christiana is one of thirty Landecker Democracy Fellows. This fellowship, a collaboration between the Alfred Landecker Foundation and Humanity in Action, was created to strengthen a new generation of leaders whose approaches to political and social challenges can become catalysts for democratic placemaking and community building.
