Alfred Landecker Democracy Fellow Asha Shajahan is on the national executive board of the #ThisIsOurShot Campaign, which was recently featured in a WFMZ-TV article. The campaign aims to combat misinformation on COVID-19 vaccines.
As COVID-19 vaccines are becoming more available in the United States, it is critical that the public understand the vaccination process and develop trust in the vaccine itself. To this end, the #ThisIsOurShot campaign connects people with questions to health experts and those who have already been vaccinated, who can share their personal experiences.
The #ThisIsOurShot team is currently working on developing a similar campaign in Spanish, #VacunateYa, which will allow this information to reach even more of the United States population.
In addition to combatting misinformation, the campaign also addresses deeply-rooted issues and disparities within US healthcare. As written in the WFMZ-TV article, “The campaign also advocates for equitable distribution and administration of vaccines and helps address historical and culturally specific barriers to vaccine acceptance.”
As one of Asha’s co-executive team-members Dr. Hussain Lalani states, “Right now, we are in a race between the virus and the vaccines. We want to ensure that as shots arrive in a community, there are arms ready to receive them.”
