Philosophy and design

Details

Article

Philosophy designs incomprehensible systems, design prettifies what has already been made. The one is occupied with meaningless depth, the other with unnecessary surface. So do the two complement each other in their superfluousness? In any case, they come too late when it comes to shaping our reality.

Landecker Democracy Fellow Thomas Arnold will be in dialogue with Dr. Dr. Florian Arnold, research associate at the State Academy for Visual Arts in Stuttgart about philosophy and design. In particular, they will address the questions “what are they” and “should we get rid of them?” This event is part of the Praktisch Philosophie! series and Thomas’s Alfred Landecker Democracy Fellowship project and it will take place on May 20, 2021 at 8:00 pm CEST / 2:00 pm EDT. You can find more information about the event here.
