Hanane Abouellotfi (Associate Director of the John Lewis Fellowship) speaks to radio station FunX about the initiative of Muslim womxn collective S.P.E.A.K. to show support to those affected by the child benefits scandal through a statement. In the interview, Hanane underscores that in order to solve the problem, there must be constant attention brought to it. Nevertheless, S.P.E.A.K. seeks to not only draw attention to the victims of the scandal, but to also find ways to help out on both an individual and collective level.

As such, S.P.E.A.K. supports MEP Samira Rafaela in asking for an infringement procedure to be started within the European Commission. Through this procedure it will be investigated to what extent the EU anti-racism laws and guidelines have been violated throughout the childcare allowance affair. By means of the procedure, the Dutch government can be obliged to apply European legislation properly and fully.

In adressing the European Comission, S.P.E.A.K. states the following:

We regard the childcare allowance scandal as the perfect example of institutionalized racism and discrimination. Citizens have been disadvantaged on the basis of ethnicity and nationality. This is contrary to the Constitution and EU directives, and must be investigated and condemned.
