How the Coronavirus Risks Exacerbating Women’s Political Exclusion

Caroline Hubbard and HIA Senior Fellow Saskia Brechenmacher write about female political involvement in the time of COVID-19. In their article for the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, they outline four factors that are threatening women’s political participation, and explain how these factors can have different impacts depending on location and background. Additionally, they describe some possibilities and opportunities to enhance and strengthen female participation in politics as a result of the pandemic. At the end, the article provides a list of recommendations to safeguard women’s inclusion.
