2004 Copenhagen Fellow Fatimah Loren Dreier (Muhammad) and David Muhammad, executive director of the National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform, recently co-wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post, titled “President Biden is listening to communities on violence prevention. Congress should, too.” The op-ed argues that the Congress should pass the president’s American Jobs Plan, which includes $5 billion investment in community violence intervention. Part of this money would go to outreach workers who help “to engage with individuals at high risk for violence and connects them to employment services, mental health care and trauma counseling.”
