Together with a small team, Senior Fellow Sylwia Vargas coded and recently launched the beta version of the COVID-19 Risk Calculator. The app is for medical professionals to perform a basic assessment and risk calculation of a COVID-19 patient ending up in the ICU, developing Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), and mortality. It is designed to help practitioners quickly review pertinent data and make informed decisions. With many hospitals facing equipment shortages, the app may be able to help divert resources to the patients who are at greatest risk.
Sylwia developed the app together with Sruti Modekurty, Platform Lead at OpenAQ, an NGO fighting air inequality through open data and community, and Dr. Tavish Nanda, a resident at Columbia University Medical Center. The data behind the app has been reviewed and compiled from studies published about patients in Wuhan. Get more insights about this important project on their website.
