Article

Landecker Fellow Laura Westring’s project, the Caledonia School of Speech Writing, was featured in a Insider article. As the youngest political speechwriter in the European Commission in 2014, she plans on establishing Scotland’s first ever Speech Writing School. While speaking about her motivations, Laura stated “We want to find students from high schools and Scottish universities who want to use their voices to benefit their communities and their careers… If we get young people from diverse backgrounds to consider activism, civic participation and community organization by teaching them how to speak with skill, confidence and empathy then we will contribute to greater participation in the democratic processes that shape our culture and economy for the better.” Laura hopes to better equip young activists with leadership and communication skills. Her project aims to give young people support so that they can engage in civil participation, advocacy, and democratic movements that align with their values. Read the full article here.
