Humanity in Action Senior Fellows Participate in the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

November 26, 2012

Humanity in Action Senior Fellows from Germany met with the women´s rights organization NANE in Budapest to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25th. NANE  launched a public campaign against domestic violence in Hungary, called the Silent Witness March, which commemorates women murdered in the context of domestic violence.

The study trip to Budpaest was part of an EU project on law-related education, initiated by HIA Germany. The project aims at increasing legal literacy as a core social and civic skill. Seven European NGOs exchange law-related education programs in order to empower individuals, get access to public services, demand their fundamental rights, participate in the democratic process and to take more control over their lives and their careers.

NANE introduced its law-related services to Humanity in Action Senior Fellows:
  • A legal hotline for victims of violence against women (domestic violence, sexual violence, prostitution-related violence, sexual harassment in the workplace);
  • methods used to train volunteers for the hotline;
  • a youth prevention program on teen dating violence;
  • training for victim support officers of the Hungarian police.

HIA Senior Fellow Josephine Landertinger published an article in the Human Rights Magazine "The Mag."
