HIA Senior Fellow Oksana Dekhtiarova Introduces New Conference: "Exploring the Intercultural Reality of the Eastern Ukraine"

A new conference, Exploring the Intercultural Reality of the Eastern Ukraine, will take place on May 19th, 2010 in Luhansk, Ukraine.

Organized by HIA Senior Fellow Oksana Dekhtiarova, and part of the Ambassadors of Change project, the conference will engage young Ukrainians and foreign students living in Ukraine on issues of tolerance, human rights and democracy. Topics will include…

  • Intercultural transformations of English language
  • Cooperation of Ukraine and Europe (in context of culture and education)
  • Tora (Torus) in the modern world
  • Development of Chinese culture in Luhansk region
  • Adaptation of foreign kids and youth in Luhansk
  • Polish traditions in Luhansk region
  • From the conflict to multicultural understanding
  • Exploring motivation of foreign students to study in Luhansk
  • The problem of multicultural education in terms of modern society
  • Ethnical understanding of student’s youth in modern socio-cultural space
  • What does it mean to be European for Severodonetsk people?
  • Events will include the presentation of new research, panel discussions with local experts, a photo exhibition and a music performance.

Exploring the Intercultural Reality of the Eastern Ukraine is made possible by a partnership between The British Council and HIA Poland, as well as the support of many local institutions such as Youth Centre for Regional Cooperation, Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University and Luhansk Administration in Youth, Family and Sport’s Affairs.
