Humanity in Action Convenes International Conference in Athens

June 20, 2016

June 20, 2016 — Humanity in Action is pleased to annouce the complete schedule and list of speakers for the Seventh Annual Humanity in Action International Conference. The conference will take place in Athens, Greece from June 23-26, 2016.

The 2016 International Conference will investigate a range of critical issues concerning Greece's political and economic situations. Greece is currently at the forefront of multiple intersecting crises – foremost the migration crisis, as Greece is the first destination for hundreds of thousands of migrants and refugees, as well as a hub for human trafficking. Greece is also in the midst of a financial crisis as the country’s institutions and civil society continue to fracture under the pressure of the recession in Europe and the country's ties to the European Union.

The conference will include keynotes, discussions and workshops with leading Greek and international experts. It will also feature the annual Senior Fellow Reunion Dinner, skills training sessions, networking opportunities and tours within Athens.

Keynote speakers for the conference include Dimitris Christopoulos (Associate Professor, Panteion University of Athens), Ndeye Diobaye (writer, Humanity in Action Senior Fellow), Konstanty Gebert (international journalist and Yugoslav Wars Correspondent for Gazeta Wyborcza), Judith S. Goldstein (Founder and Executive Director of Humanity in Action), Anders Jerichow (Chair, Humanity in Action Denmark), Georgios Kaminis (Mayor of the City of Athens), Fatma Ko┼čer Kaya (Chair, Humanity in Action The Netherlands), Elidor Mëhilli (Assistant Professor, Hunter College of the City University of New York, Humanity in Action Senior Fellow), Rena Molho (historian), Heracles Moskoff (National Rapporteur on Trafficking, Greece), Yonous Muhammadi (President, Greek Forum of Refugees), Chrysanthi Protogerou (Director, Greek Forum of Refugees), Brett Stark (Co-Founder, Terra Firma, Humanity in Action Senior Fellow), Deborah Valencia (Melissa Network of Migrant Women); and Axel Sotiris Walldén (Université Libre de Bruxelles).
