Humanity in Action Receives Grant to Include Greek Fellows in 2014

December 03, 2013

Humanity in Action is pleased to announce a major new initiative of incorporating Greek students and Greek issues into Humanity in Action Fellowship programs. Beginning in 2014, the Humanity in Action Fellowship programs in France and Germany will include Greek participants. In addition, Humanity in Action will develop study trips in Germany and Greece.

In 2014 and 2015, Greek university students and recent graduates will join the French and German Humanity in Action Fellowship programs. Intensive and demanding, the Fellowship programs bring together international groups of university students and recent graduates to explore different national histories of discrimination and resistance to injustice, as well as examples of contemporary issues affecting minority groups. The programs are also intended to instill a responsibility among Fellows to recognize the need to protect minorities and promote human rights in their own communities and around the world.

The first study trip will take place in Berlin in 2014. The one-week intensive program will deal with emerging nationalism and extremist political movements in Germany and Europe. In 2015, the study trip will take place in Athens and will focus on contemporary Greek issues.

In recent years, Humanity in Action has gradually extended its annual educational programs to new countries to gain important national perspectives and to enlarge its network of young leaders around the world. Greece’s current confrontation with political and economic dislocation is of critical importance to the future of Europe and has significant ramifications for the United States as well. Humanity in Action seeks to address some of these issues by exposing its international network of Fellows to Greek issues through outstanding Greek university students and to provide educational tools that will enable young leaders in Greece to confront their immediate challenges.

In the wake of the global economic crisis in Europe, the prospect of working with Greek students, young professionals and established leaders represents a singularly important opportunity for the work of Humanity in Action.

Since 1999, Humanity in Action has engaged more than 1,300 Fellows in its transatlantic study programs focusing on human rights and minority issues—past and present—in Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and the United States.

Humanity in Action is an international educational organization. Humanity in Action educates, inspires and connects a global network of students, young professionals and established leaders committed to promoting human rights, diversity and active citizenship—in their own communities and around the world.

This new initiative, spearheaded by Humanity in Action France, is generously supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. For more info, please contact Laurène Bounaud, French National Director at
