Article

Martin Luther King Day  is celebrated around the world to commemorate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. As a leading civil rights activist, Dr. King fought to create an equitable society where the color of your skin did not determine your privilege and potential in life. Seeing that this dream for equality remained unrecognized, Humanity in Action Senior Fellows Nawal Mustafa & Sarah Asmelash partnered with Humanity in Action Netherlands in 2013 to create an annual event that not only commemorated the legacy of Dr. King, but also encouraged future activism in society’s most challenging issues. This annual event in Amsterdam now brings together leading activists and human rights defenders to evaluate our progress towards a more equitable world and to consider new ways for society to recognize Dr. King’s dream.
