Since its origins, democracy has been a work in progress. Today, many question its resilience. The Bertelsmann Foundation and Humanity in Action have teamed up with Andrew Keen, author of How to Fix the Future, to launch How to Fix Democracy: a video and podcast series exploring practical responses to the threats facing democracies around the world. Host Andrew Keen interviews prominent thinkers, writers, politicians, technologists, and business leaders who enlighten and challenge us as we seek the answers to How to Fix Democracy.

Here he speaks with Laura Rosenberger, the Director of the German Marshall Fund’s Alliance for Securing Democracy.

Former White House and State Department official, Laura Rosenberger shares her belief that threats to democracy are threats to national security. She discusses external challenges such as “Putin’s Russia” and the rising power of China. Rosenburger urges close attention to Russian and Chinese efforts to create cleavages within societies and to discredit truthful information. She calls for unity, getting a handle on new technology, and active participation in civil society to best secure democracy. Watch the full video interview here.
