Escape 4 Youth is an escape room games that explores youth rights struggles and zooms in on the right of youth to take part in decisions affecting their lives. The escape room’s theme was a Youth Club that was being privatized and shut down. The participants had to solve puzzles before they could book a hearing to keep their youth club running. The aim of the escape room was to allow participants to understand the unique barriers that youth can face when they are denied access to democratic processes and platforms.
The activity explored barriers youth face such as voting age, the lack of a platform to have their voices heard, and not knowing their rights. The clues in the game were related to these issues and allowed for more immersive learning. After the game, the participants did a debriefing exercise that focused on the learning objectives.
