French Senior Fellows Network Hosts Debate on Equal Opportunity in the Media

On Friday, December 4th, 2009, The French Senior Fellows Network, along with Youth Center Poterne des peupliers and Les Indivisibles, hosted a debate on equal opportunity in the media.

Director of HIA France, Tara Dickman, and three-time world boxing champion and youth counselor Enoch Effah moderated the debate amongst the 100 locals in attendance, and the distinguished panel, which included:

• Bernard Spitz, chairman of the State commission on Diversity in the Media
• Mohammed Nassim, spokesman of the media lobby group Club Averroes
• Olivier Zegna Rata, President External Relations of Canal +
• Marc Cheb Sun, editor in chief of Respect Magazine,
• Rokhaya Diallo, President of Les Indivisibles,
• Pascale Colisson, President of the Association of Women Journalists,
• Hortense Assage, host journalist on Tropiques FM,
• Lascary Laurence, director of the production company De l'Autre Côté du Périph

During breaks, local artists performed pieces on the topic of diversity and equal opportunity in the media.

The night also included a game of Pictionary designed to explore subconscious prejudices.

The debate ended around 10pm, and recommendations emerging from the discussion between the audience and stakeholders will be presented at the State commission on Diversity in the Media.
