Humanity in Action Honors James Bennet, Adam Hochschild and John Rossant
Humanity in Action is pleased to announce that it will be honoring Mr. James Bennet, Mr. Adam Hochschild and Mr. John Rossant at its fall benefit this Thursday, October 13, 2011, at the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in New York City.

James Bennet is the fourteenth editor of The Atlantic, the general interest magazine created in 1857 to advance what its founders called the American Idea. During Bennet’s tenure, The Atlantic has experienced a dazzling resurgence, increasing its editorial reach and impact while achieving profitability for the first time in recent memory. In 2009, the industry magazine Advertising Age singled out Bennet as Editor of the Year. Before joining the Atlantic staff, Bennet held numerous reporting positions at The New York Times, including Jerusalem bureau chief, White House correspondent, and staff writer for the Sunday Magazine. Bennet began his journalism career at The Washington Monthly.
Adam Hochschild has written for The New Yorker, Harper’s, The Atlantic, The New York Review of Books, and many other magazines, and is the author of seven books. King Leopold’s Ghost: a Story of Greed, Terror and Heroism in Colonial Africa was a finalist for the 1998 National Book Critics Circle Award; Bury the Chains: Prophets and Rebels in the Fight to Free an Empire’s Slaves, was a finalist for the 2005 National Book Award and won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. His latest book is To End All Wars: A Story of Loyalty and Rebellion, 1914-1918.
John Rossant is Executive Chairman of Geneva-based PublicisLive, the global events management company responsible for the production of some of the world’s most prestigious international conferences such as the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. John Rossant has also been instrumental in launching the Monaco Media Forum, the major European conference on new and emerging media, and the Abu Dhabi Media Summit, a leading global platform for the discussion of emerging media in emerging markets. More recently, John Rossant and PublicisLive organized the e-G8 Forum on the Internet at the request of French President Nicolas Sarkozy. John Rossant is also the founder and chairman of the New Cities Foundation, an initiative focusing on improving the quality and life and work in the 21st century city.
