Requesting Financial Assistance from HIA
This page provides information about how Fellows selected for the HIA Fellowship Programs in Europe can request financial assistance for travel to and from their programs.
To qualify, HIA requires that you look first to other sources of funding, including your college or university financial aid office, private grants, frequent flier miles, and friends and relatives before relying on HIA.
Additionally, please plan on providing the following documentation to HIA no later than April 15:
- Detailed information about your fundraising efforts and the total amount of money you will be able to contribute to the cost of your travel. Please submit this information online at http://www.humanityinaction.org/apply/usa/request.
- Current students: A letter from your financial aid office stating that you qualify for financial assistance.
- Recent graduates: A signed letter from you explaining your financial circumstances.
After HIA receives this documentation, we will provide a stipend that makes up the difference between what you are able to raise and the approximate cost of direct travel to and from your program country. HIA expects that you will purchase your own airline ticket and provide HIA with a confirmed itinerary within a week of receiving this check, and no later than April 30, 2010.
Please note that HIA reserves the right to withdraw financial assistance if you fail to meet these deadlines.
